Ingredients

  • 400 g ripe guavas about 7 small or 4 large, pink or white
  • 3 cups cold water 720 ml, divided
  • 2 tablespoons sugar or honey or to taste, optional
  • 2 tablespoons lime juice about 1 lime
  • 1 pinch salt optional
  • ice cubes to serve

Method

  1. Wash the guavas and trim off the stem and blossom ends. Cut each one into quarters; there is no need to peel them.
  2. Add the guavas and 1½ cups of the cold water to a blender and blend on high for about 1 minute, until completely smooth.
  3. Pour the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve set over a pitcher, pressing the pulp with a spoon to push through as much juice as you can. Discard the seeds left in the sieve.
  4. Stir in the remaining 1½ cups of water, the sugar, lime juice and salt until the sugar dissolves.
  5. Taste and adjust with more water, sugar or lime. Serve over ice.
